I picked up Zero at the Home Depot parking lot on Sunday afternoon. He was matter of fact. Got out of one trailer and into another one. Now really knowing "why" these humans wanted him to, just did as he was told. I assume that was how he spent most of his life. Working hard, doing what was expected, and in return, he was fed, watered and rested until the next work day began. When he unloaded Zero showed signs of old age, he was thin, out of shape, little muscle, but I could tell from the look in his eye, in his mind, he was still the strong fit gelding he always was. I did get to ride him once, and he was a dream. Having physical problems with my legs and feet, I felt safe and secure on his back, and around him on the ground. I was so looking forward to riding him again when my physical problems were better. However, I will never have that chance. Zero died out in the pasture on January 31st, 2008 of natural causes. No sickness, no pain, just died. Zero was indeed a perfect example of what a horse should be.
