After making a phone call concerning another horse, the lady on the other end spoke of a friend who had a horse she needed to sell. We made a deal, and bought Lady sight unseen. Arriving at her home, we were amazed at her appearance. She had been in a pen with some yearlings, who had proceeded to chew off her mane and forelock. She was caked with mud and manure. We loaded her in our trailer, and headed for home. In a short time, Lady put on the much needed weight. This just showed us she was not being fed. In March, a family came to purchase another horse from us, but their daughter fell in love with Lady. They ended taking her home as well. Some months later, the family rode her in a local playday, discovering Lady's talent of barrel racing. While she usually appeared sleepy without much energy, as she entered the arena through the alley, she put it into second gear and hauled it through the pattern. After exiting the arena, she slowed down, and by the end of the alley, she was again in her lazy mode. Lady, though retired as a barrel horse, was a permanent resident of our friends home in Bastrop, Texas. One morning, Lady was found down. While she did get back up, she soon fell over and died. The young girl is continuing her hobby of running barrels thanks to her wonderful teacher, Lady. Just as our name implies, we feel a horse is ...Never Too Old...
