Grey Mare

No, this gal did not get a name nor did I have time to get a picture of her. We name our horses after watching them and learning of their personalities, however, we did not get much of a chance with her. Erica picked her up at the auction on Saturday night, trying to treat her cold, when the mare quit eating, she was unable to get the much needed antibiotics down her. So she called me and I brought her home on Wednesday.

I truly believe horses have some of the same aches and pains as we humans, and I believe the grey mare had a horrible headache that night. She walked in the trailer, and buried her head in the corner of the slant. She stayed that way the whole ride home, for when we got her out, she had a rubbed spot on her forehead where she had rested her head. While she ate hay that night, the next day, she wanted no part of feed or hay. We were still giving her injections of antibiotics, but by Thursday night, she was getting much worse.

She passed away during the night Thursday or early Friday morning. It is never easy when we lose one. We try so hard, and do all we can to make a difference, but sometimes we are just too late in getting to the horses. But we know she is happily grazing greener pastures under the watchful eye of my daddy somewhere across the Rainbow Bridge.
